What camera do you use?

Previously I shot with a Canon 400D but since December 2015 I shoot with a Canon 70D. S surprised me for my birthday with a tripod Manfrotto so the days are gone when I used to climb on chairs and juggling with the camera.

 
 

HOW DO shoot in natural light? 

 

Yes, I shoot using only natural lighting, although one of my photography goals is learning to create beautiful images using artificial lighting.

 
 

WHERE DO YOU TAKE YOUR PICTURES?

At the moment I style and shoot in my living room. It's the best place in my house to shoot as the natural light comes through four large doors, but sometimes my two nosy cats want to be part of the shooting so I'm planning to built my own photo studio in the garden.

 
 

When did you start taking pictures of food?

My first ever food photo was an avocado and egg salad which I took on the 5th June 2014. I remember it perfectly as it was the first recipe I used when I began Lau Sunday cooks. 

 

HOW DID YOU LEARN PHOTOGRAPHY & FOOD STYLING?

The same way I learnt swimming: jumping into the water! I learnt using the effective method of trial and error. I also took part in a magnificent food styling and photography course by Aiala Hernando. After this course, my photography journey and skills dramatic improved. 

 

DO you EAT EVERYTHING YOU COOK?

Of course! I always try to cook to serve two people so S and me end up eating it after the shooting, unless it's a cake or a bunch of doughnuts, in that case I share it with friends and keep them happy!

 

Who is S?

S is my partner, best friend, my personal grammar and spellchecker (the advantages of having a British boyfriend!), chief taster of my recipes unless they contain any kind of fish, mushrooms, mustard and a few more ingredients that I can't remember now. 

 

WHY DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME LAU SUNDAY COOKS?

Lau Sunday is my second identity, who cooks, shoots, eats and tides up afterwards. The name Lau was born is the UK, when I first started working as nanny in a family of four chindren (yep, four!). They couldn't say my name as it pronounces in Spanish [law-ra] so they called me Lau. And Sunday is just the Spanish translation of my surname.  

 

OH, I've THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE YOU COOKED ON SUNDAYS...

Yeah.. funnily enough, most of the times I cook and shoot for the blog are on Sundays!   

 
 

Can I use your images and recipes on my site?

I ask that you do not republish my recipes, but you may use 1 photo and link back to the blog post directly with credit in the copy if you are a non-profit business or another blogger.
